Uncomfortable Moments

My fingers' joints felt painful and numb then weak in the middle of the night and early morning. Started about Week 30 onwards. It's one of the common pregnancy discomfort called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).

I researched and realised that it is due to compression of the median nerve at the wrist as it passes from the forearm into the hand; most often caused by repetitive movements of the hand and wrist, such as typing. That is because hormonal changes, swelling and weight gain compresses the nerve beneath the carpal tunnel (See the illustration - http://www.medem.com/MedLB/article_detaillb.cfm?article_ID=ZZZDLCB46JC&sub_cat=181)

For prevention, it is important to avoid repetitive hand movements at work or in the house that may precipitate the symptoms. Similarly, when working on the keyboard, it is important to avoid excessive bending of the wrist and to take frequent breaks away, from the keyboard. And shake-shake as often. CTS symptoms will improve and recover after the birth of the baby. However it may take as long as one year to do so. (ohhhh..no...)

Pregnancy hosts lots of physical concerns; everything from acne to morning sickness, fatigue to heartburn! Now that I am in my third and final trimester, I felt that some symptons returns!!!!!!
