Week 27 - Chest Physiotherapy

Little Kayden has some phlegm accumulated in his throat; probably are the mucus. Glad it was not bronchitis or cough.

(Most Chinese's practice will be using cordyceps - the effects of cordyceps are claimed to prevent and reduce inflammation, reducing a cough, eliminating phlegm.

My caregiver at his infant care taught me a chest physio and it works to eliminate his phlegm! Chest Physiotherapy is used to assist a cough, re-educate breathing muscles and to try to improve ventilation of the lungs. One of the chest physio technique I learnt was 'Percussion' - this involves a form of 'patting' the chest to vibrate the lungs and help the secretions move. It is not hitting! 'Vibrations' and 'patting' do what they say, to try and clear the airways.

It is often useful to do physio first thing in the morning before getting out of bed. The chest will have been relaxed at night and the secretions may be easier to remove. Chest physiotherapy should never be done straight after a feed.

Now whenever I hear that his breathing is a little different or noisy, I will do this chest physio. Umm... Will consult more with Dr. Oh on chest physio...

(Heard form the old folks...) A cure for coughing : To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.
